Alan J. Stapinsky
January 8, 1967 ~ January 17, 2026
Alan J. Stapinsky of Newburgh, NY passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Alan was the son of Edward T. Kiernan as well as Linda S. Kiernan. Born on January 8, 1967, in St Lukes Hospital, Newburgh, NY, Alan was 59 years old.
From early age, Alan was very active, always curious, reading and looking for answers. He joined the Boy Scouts, learned a lot and started to share his knowledge from that time. He attended Valley Central High School, where he participated in many sports including wrestling, his favorite. Only few years later he fell in love with golf, which became his life sport.
After graduating from high school, he continued his education at Oswego College, where, as described once by Alan, enjoyed himself so much that his time at campus was cut short. After an attempt at being in finance, which was not the right fit, Alan joined the construction industry where he built a successful career and proudly served different positions, more importantly, forged many long-lasting friendships.
Alan was very funny and made everyone laugh, sometimes while keeping a straight face. He was a passionate man, who always lived his life by code, unapologetic and in every extend of the word, lived his life to the fullest. He loved golf, music, his friends, Diana, his family and cats. Alan enjoyed the outdoors and the simple things in life; like watching a sunset, listening to the ocean waves, bringing a plant from seed to bloom.
Alan was an "old soul", generous, genuine, extremely well read and intelligent. Never afraid to challenge the norm and to tell you how he felt. Alan went "head on" in everything he did, no matter what the challenge was. Alan proudly lived his life "his way", which is how he did most things.
Alan was not perfect and he never tried hiding it. While being very reserved and not always easy to understand, Alan was the best and most loyal friend a person could ever have imagined. Those who always maintained an open heart for Alan, today have the treasure of a memory of his; either learning how to play golf, driving for a few hours to a rock concert with an old friend, driving long hours to support and see his niece compete or flying for hours to be at a friend's side when he needed the most.
Alan was a beloved brother, and a proud uncle who enjoyed creating long lasting memories and sharing his wisdom of the world with his loved ones.
Alan is survived at home by his love, Diana and her family; Sister Lyn Garrison and husband Bobby with their children Jesi Niebuhr; Alysa Goodwin and her husband Matthew Goodwin with their children Audrianna and Mason; as well as his dad Edward T. Kiernan; Mother Linda S. Kiernan and sister Andrea Peaks with her children Kristina Scott, Alicia Castaldo and Nicholas Castaldo and their families. Alan is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Alan will be greatly missed by his brothers in heart Mike Vela; Frank Wood; Nick & Rosa Hoffmann and their families.
A Mass in honor of Alan's passing to eternal life with God, will be celebrated on Saturday March 28, 2026 at St. Patrick's Church, 55 Grand St. Newburgh, at 10AM.
In lieu of flowers, please do something that Alan would do without hesitation, be generous, look upon someone in need and help without advertising it and, as Alan once said, help comes in many ways and, no questions asked.
Thank you for the support in this very difficult time, for loving Alan and for always being there for him.
