Amy Antinori, passed peacefully, surrounded by family on
December 30th, in her home. She lived a happy and healthy 102 years.
Born to Samuel and Catherine Leonardo, on April 13, 1921, Amy was the first in her family born in the United States. She had a true thirst for learning her whole life. After her 1939 graduation at Newburgh Free Academy, she continued to feed her thirst for learning, reading the newspaper cover-to-cover daily, and
buying a computer and getting on the internet, while taking classes at Mount Saint Mary's College in her 70s and 80s. She especially had a love for languages and history. Amy married S. P. John Antinori in 1941, at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh. She was a devout Catholic, who held strong to her faith, attending mass each week. She was the support network for the family business, Johnny's Service Station, for many years. Following the sale of the business, she began her second career at Sears, where she retired after over 25 years of service. Amy, or "Mimi", as she was affectionately called by her grand and great-grandchildren, could always be found watching the Travel Channel, History Channel, or Food Network. She loved to be social, attend luncheons with her coworkers, and attend Italian Club meetings. She loved to cook, sew, and listen to Italian opera music-Pavarotti recently being replaced by Botochelli as her favorite .
In addition to her parents, Amy was predeceased by her husband, John Sr., son, Andrew, sisters; Helen, Angeline, and Jean, brothers; Constantine, Samuel, Paul, and Anthony, and nieces, Linda and Sharon.
Amy is survived by her son, John and his wife Pia, daughter-in-law, Bea Antinori, grandchildren; Marianne (Mike), Andrew (Amy), Rosanne (Marc), Andrea (Trevor), and Gianna,great grandchildren; Michael, Emily, Matthew, Madelena, Juliana, George, Elyse, and Isla. She also leaves behind She also leaves behind
sister-in-laws, Joan and Concetta, as well as many nieces and nephews, who she cherished.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY, from 4PM-7PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 3rd, 2023, at 10AM, at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, NY followed by Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County, and her caretaker, Joan Salmon, for their phenomenal care.
