Obituary

Anthony A. Perrego

August 4, 1936 ~ March 3, 2025

Up in heaven, Anthony "Tony" Perrego has already found the best seat at the table, cracked a joke, and asked for seconds. Born in Middletown, NY, Tony spent 88 lively years making people laugh, working hard, and reminding everyone to "Give me a break."

A proud U.S. Marine who served during the Korean conflict, Tony later became a Commander for the Disabled American Veterans chapter 152 from 2007- 2015 proving that his dedication to service didn't end when he left the military. He was also a proud member of Local 17, where he worked tirelessly and made lifelong friends.

Tony had a deep love for cowboy movies, never passing up a good Western where the hero rode off into the sunset. When he wasn't watching John Wayne lay down the law, you could often find him sitting on his front porch in his rocking chair, people-watching like it was a full-time job.

He was a loving husband to Angela Perrego and a devoted father to Steve Perrego, Terry LeDesma (husband Roderick LeDesma), Jerry Santaniello (wife Angela Santaniello), Lorri Miller (husband Kenny Miller), and Christina Norton (husband Gary Norton). He was also a cherished grandfather to 17 grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to 6 great-grandchildren—each of whom undoubtedly inherited at least a little of his humor, charm, or love of good food.

Tony is survived by his brothers Robert F. Perrego, James Perrego, Peter Perrego, and Gary Perrego. He now joins his parents, Florence (Serviss) Perrego and Carmine Perrego, as well as his siblings Thomas Perrego, Michael Perrego, Carma Perrego Ryan, Phyllis Perrego Goggin, Rose Marie Perrego Scott, and Paula Perrego Mueller, who have undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms (and maybe a few wisecracks of their own).

Tony was a funny man, a big flirt, and a firm believer that no meal should go uneaten. Whether he was cracking jokes, working hard, or doting on his family, he always brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.

Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh, NY, on Sunday, March 9th, from 2–4 PM. A graveside service will take place Monday, March 10th, at 11 AM at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Rd, Goshen, NY.  Celebration of life to follow!

In honor of Tony, share a laugh, eat a good meal, and, for the love of all things holy, cut people some slack—because, as he always said, "Give me a break."
