Barbara Certo
January 13, 1942 ~ July 2, 2026
Barbara Ann Certo of New Windsor, NY, quietly passed away with family at her side on July 2, 2026. She was 84 years old.
Born Barbara Ann Ermolin on January 13, 1942, in New York City, she was the only child of Gus and Marion Ermolin. Her family moved to Newburgh when she was young. Barb met the love of her life, Alfred Certo, on a blind date. They married on April 28, 1962 and had 4 daughters - Tina, Michele, Janine and Brenda - in 5 years, earning the recognition at a high school reunion for having the most children in the least time.
Affectionately known as “Mrs. C” to her children’s friends, she was known for her sense of humor as well as keen meteorological skills, as she lovingly warned of impending weather events as anyone left the house. Lays potato chips and Hershey kisses could be found hidden throughout the house. Barb was a salesperson at heart, working for Tupperware and Sears for many years, and later in doctors’ offices. Barb enjoyed shopping, gardening, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She never missed a chance to buy a gift for a child, always finding exactly the right one. She was known for her kind heart and was a good friend to many.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Alfred and children Tina Cricchio (Frank), Michele McKnight (Danny), Janine Dolan Jenks (Doug) and Brenda Barnes (John) and by 12 grandchildren Joe (Lenette) and Nicole Cricchio, Amanda and Daniel McKnight, Ian and Emma Dolan, Doug, Val and Ryan Jenks and Alexandra, Samantha and Harry Barnes, one great-grandchild Arlo Joseph Cricchio as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh, NY, on August 1, from 8:30-10 am, followed by a funeral mass at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Newburgh at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter
