Obituary

Barbara P. McGorman

October 3, 1945 ~ September 23, 2024

New Windsor, NY

Barbara (nee Brisach) McGorman, 78, died at home in New Windsor on Monday, September 23rd. She was born in the Bronx to Dorothy (nee McEntee)and Robert Brisach. She had one older brother, Robert. She attended Our Lady of Angels Elementary School in the Bronx until her family moved to the Newburgh area. In Newburgh she attended and graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy.

Some years after graduation from NFA she married  Aidan McGorman. They had a beautiful daughter whom they named Kerry Agnes. Kerry was the light of her life. Her beloved Kerry passed away from cancer at age 42 in 2012 and Barbara never really recovered from the loss.

Barbara worked for Connecticut General Insurance for a few years before acquiring a position at West Point where she worked for over 20 years as a supervisor in the Supply Department. Upon retirement she received the LSSO Award from West Point for faithful and honorable service.

After retirement she spent time with her family enjoying visits with her nieces Donna and Jennifer and their children and grandchildren. She was also close to her cousin Joseph and his wife Rene and their children and grandchildren in Staten Island. She  made frequent visits to Staten Island for holidays, birthdays, and just because. Her close friends Sandy VanLeuwen, Doris Segal, and Sr. Ann Daly were like her family. She took wonderful care of her mom when her mom's health was failing. Shortly after that she helped take care of her aunt in New Jersey until she passed away.

Barbara enjoyed eating out especially at the Olive Garden. She loved to stop for a vanilla ice cream on the way home from anywhere. Among her hobbies she enjoyed making diamond art pictures and watching movies with her friend Sandy.  She also enjoyed visiting with her friend Doris to go swimming in the summer and meeting up with her at Dunkin Donuts frequently for a coffee and a chat all year long. Barbara was also an avid shopper and loved browsing at Kohl's. She had another good friend, Sister Ann Daly, whom she met when her mom and daughter were at the Kaplan Hospice. They often met up for lunch or dinner.

Barbara was a good cook.  A family favorite from the non-Italian side of the family was her tasty Italian sauce for her meatballs and spaghetti. It was a recipe from her Irish mother.  For dessert, she often had a chocolate cake covered in whipped cream with maraschino cherries on top.

A good, kind person, a good neighbor, and a devout Catholic, Barbara attended St.Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall every Saturday afternoon for the Sunday Vigil Mass.

Barbara is survived by her cousin Joseph McAnanama and his wife Rene, Her sister-in-law Jennie Brisach, her niece Donna Brisach LaRosa and her husband Angelo, her niece Jennifer Brisach Tallerico and her husband Joe, and her nephew Robert Brisach. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins and a special friend she called "Aunt Helen".

She was predeceased by her daughter, Kerry, her former husband Aidan, her parents, Robert and Dorothy Brisach, and her brother, Robert.

A special thank you to the friends and family mentioned above for their support and dedication to Barbara over the years especially after Kerry passed away.

Mass cards would be appreciated.
