Bernard O'Rourke, 95, of Newburgh, New York, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025. Born on June 9, 1930, to Daniel and Helen Cavanaugh O'Rourke, Bernard was a lifelong resident of Newburgh, a devoted family man, and a proud veteran.

Bernard served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. After his military service, he dedicated over 30 years of his life to his work at West Point. Above all, Bernard was a devoted grandfather whose presence created a special bond with his grandchildren. His loss will leave a void in their lives and in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Devin) O'Rourke and Kathleen Ossenfort and his cherished niece Stephanie McCullough. He was the proud grandfather of Kara (Alan) Lippa, Jeff (Nishelle) O'Rourke, Jennifer (Andy) Ginter, Nicole (Angelo) Navas, Katie (Daniel) Ossenfort, Timothy Ossenfort, Rebekah Ossenfort, Ellie O'Rourke, and Declan O'Rourke. Bernard also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren: Noah, Ezra, James, Mara, Hunter, Oriana, Angelina, and Carolina.

Bernard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Kathleen Ferguson O'Rourke, and their son, Bernie O'Rourke Jr. He was also predeceased by his siblings and their spouses: Daniel and Molly O'Rourke, Dolores and Bill Taylor, and Marian O'Rourke

He is survived by his brother James (Carolyn) O'Rourke, his sister Kathy (Fred) Metzger, sister-in-law Patricia McCullough and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
