Berta Sala
November 17, 1944 ~ May 14, 2026
Beacon, NY
Berta Sala, 81, passed away on May 14, 2026 at Cedar Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Ossining, New York, due to complications related to sepsis.
Born on November 17, 1944, in the Bronx, New York, Berta was the daughter of the late Arthur and Anne Hirsch. She was raised in Yonkers, New York, where she spent her early years before beginning the life she would so devotedly build around family.
Berta was married for 53 years to her beloved husband, Joseph Sala, who passed away in March 2025 with Berta by his side. In 1975, they moved to Beacon, New York, where they built their home and raised their family. Berta devoted her early years to being a stay-at-home mother, lovingly raising their three children. Later, she worked as an office administrator.
Berta had a deep love for cooking and took great joy in sharing her recipes with others. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping and spending time with her close friend, Arlene Buote, whose companionship meant so much to her.
Berta is survived by her children: Carol Nieto (spouse Christopher Nieto), Laura Schuder (spouse Jerry Schuder), and Robert Sala; and by her five cherished grandchildren: Alyssa Schuder, Julianne Schuder, Jake Schuder, Sebastian Sala, and Caeden Sala. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Schuder, in 1994.
A Funeral Home Service will be held on Wednesday May 20th, 2026, at 1PM at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
