Beverley J. Messina
January 23, 1942 ~ April 6, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Beverley J. Messina (née Heyman), who departed this life on April 6, 2026, in Schenectady, New York, at the age of 84. Born on January 23, 1942, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Beverley lived a life filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories.
Beverley was the daughter of the late Donald Heyman and Bertha VanNatter. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis A. Messina, with whom she shared many wonderful years building a life together. Together they owned and operated B+L Variety—fondly known as Bev and Lou's store—a cornerstone of their community where they mentored countless young adults who frequented their shop.
Beverley's greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her children: Donna Rivera; Lou-Ann Partington and her husband Paul; and Anthony L. Messina and his partner Debbie. She also leaves behind her brother John VanNatter and his partner Tillie; her sister Doris Arquitte; sisters-in-law Joan Messina and Josephine Brown; as well as 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Beverley was predeceased by her son-in-law Carlos A. Rivera; siblings Helen Messina, Barbara Redner, Charlene Ortega, and Donald VanNatter; brothers-in-law Carmen Messina, Fred (Junior) Messina, and Robert Redner; and other cherished family members.
Beverley had a deep love for angels—both figuratively and literally—as she collected angel figurines alongside bells and teacups. Her fondness for the beach led to countless hours spent collecting seashells along the shorelines she adored. Known for her culinary talents, Beverley delighted in cooking for family gatherings where her meals brought everyone together in laughter and love. Her passion for traveling allowed her to create treasured memories with those closest to her.
Above all else, Beverley will be remembered for her unconditional love—a love that extended not only to her family but to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She embraced life with warmth and kindness that left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Though our hearts are broken by this loss, we find solace in knowing that Beverley is now at rest in the arms of Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverley's memory to The Community Hospice at 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or online at www.thecommunityhospice.org .
May Beverley's memory bring comfort to all who knew her as we celebrate a life so beautifully lived. A Funeral will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave Newburgh, N.Y. 12550.
