Brian Kingston “Duby” Ellis

Brian Kingston “Duby” Ellis, of Newburgh, New York, passed away on June 20, 2026.

Born on November 24, 1940, Duby was raised in Fort Montgomery and later made his home in Newburgh, where he spent most of his life.

In February 1964, he married Jean, the love of his life. Together they built a life centered around family, friendship, and their devotion to one another, sharing 60 years of marriage before her passing on December 26, 2024. She was the center of his world, and he deeply missed her.

Duby was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, loyal friend, and proud veteran. Nothing was more important to him than his family and the lifelong friendships he built over the years.

He loved whitetail deer hunting, always had a project underway, and was known for his wit, ingenuity, and practical way of looking at life. He enjoyed spending time with family, sharing stories and laughter with friends, and simply being around the people he loved.

Known to almost everyone simply as Duby, he seemed to know everyone, and everyone seemed to know him.

He proudly served in the United States Navy and valued the friendship and camaraderie he shared with his fellow veterans, especially his weekly breakfasts with his AMVETS friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean; his father, David; his mother, Harriet; and his sister, Dale.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Garvey, and her children, Caitlyn and Raymond; his son, Brian Ellis, and his wife, Angela, and their daughters, Charlotte and Dakota; as well as many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no public services. Family and friends are invited to remember Duby in their own way by sharing a story, a laugh, or a memory of the many moments he created throughout his life.
