Carl James Hamilton passed away January, 18, 2025. Carl was born in New York City to James and Ruby Hamilton on March 21, 1936. He was the youngest of four children; he was the only male. Carl was brought up in a loving home.

His education commenced at St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Harlem, NY and his education continued at Cardinal Hayes Catholic High School in the Bronx, NY. In 1953, at the age of 17, Carl was a member of The Boys Club of New York Boxing Team, which traveled to London, England where his team was invited to a reception at Windsor Castle, where he met Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. This trip was a catalyst for Carl's love of world travel.

After high school, Carl served four years in the United States Air Force where he spent most of his service in Germany where he met his wife, Johanna Koschel. In 1962, Carl entered the NYC Police Department and served for 23 years. Upon retirement, he had served in the rank of Lieutenant. During his years as a police officer, he moved to Newburgh, NY and he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC.

Carl lived a spiritual and interesting life, traveling the world and serving his community whenever he could. He was a devoted Catholic who spent much of his life serving his church community as well.  He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Patrick's Church and Our Lady of the Lake Chapel in Newburgh. He was a member of the Parish Council, President of the St. Martin de Porres Society, and Chairman of the St. Patrick's Church Black Ministry. He was also a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He served in all these capacities for over 40 years.

Carl served the City of Newburgh with distinction as well. He was the Chairman of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community-Wide Celebrating the Dream Committee, where he selected high school students from the Newburgh city high schools to receive college scholarships. He was also a member of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monument committee which worked with the City of Newburgh to erect a bust of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Finally, Carl loved to volunteer his time ministering the teachings of our Lord to the guests of the soup kitchen of St. Patrick's Church.

Carl and family traveled the world to Africa and Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Carl led a full and blessed life and leaves behind a host of loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Hamilton; and his sisters, Vivian Hamilton and Lillian Rogers. He is survived by his sister, Lucille Lewis.
