Carlton Dewitt “Rock” Buie
Sunrise: February 9, 1956 — Sunset: September 29, 2026
Carlton Dewitt Buie, lovingly known as “Rock,” was born on February 9, 1956, to James William and Ollar Belle Buie at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh, New York. He grew up in Newburgh and attended Orange County schools, including North Junior High and Newburgh Free Academy. He later worked with Quick Way Metal.
Carlton enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, especially basketball, football, and cooking. Above all, his greatest joy was fatherhood—raising his son, Jason Green, who remained the center of his world.
Family and friends called him “Rock” because his character was truly solid as a rock. His word was his bond. He was dependable, loyal, and always willing to help anyone in need, even if it meant breaking his back to get the job done. His strength was matched only by his kindness.
Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, James William and Ollar Belle Buie; his brother, James Clayton Buie; and his niece, Constance Denise Ramsey.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His son, Jason Green, and Jason’s wife Samantha, along with their children Cameron and Jayla. His sister Dorothy, and brother‑in‑law The Honorable Harold B. Ramsey, Esq., of Charlotte, NC. His brothers Jonathan (JB), Dawn Beadle, and Charles Dwayne Buie, all of Newburgh, NY. His nephews Anthony, and his wife Doretha Buie of Charlotte, NC; Jonathan Jr. of Newburgh, NY. His niece Johanna, and her husband Roisaud Wallace of Charlotte, NC. A host of grand‑nephews, grand‑nieces, great‑grand‑nephews, great‑grand‑nieces, cousins, and friends.
Carlton “Rock” Buie will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, his generosity, and the love he carried for his family. His legacy lives on in all who knew him.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, October 12th from 4:00 ~ 7:00pm at the Brooks Funeral Home.
