Carmela entered into rest on September 14, 2022. The daughter of the late Frank and Mary Cristiano, she was born in Engelwood, NJ on June 9, 1924. She married Jack Stang, the original "Mike Hammer" for Mickey Spillane, who was also a Motorcycle Cop in Newburgh, on October 15, 1944. Camie and Jack celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death while living in Fort Myers, Florida in January 1996.
Carmela is survived by her daughter, Marlene Stang-Peterson and her husband, Robert "Pete" Peterson of Newburgh. Camie's son, Jack, passed away two years ago. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Sigrid Stang, of Bradenton, Florida; Jonathan Stang and his wife Lindsey of Connecticut; great and great-great-grandchildren living in Florida and Connecticut; her sisters, Francine Von Dreuschle of Clinton, NJ, Rose Marie Myrah of NJ, and Margaret Cristiano of Concord, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Jack and her son Jack, she was predeceased by her brother, Vivi, and her sister, Sister Carmela Marie of the Order of Sisters of Charity.
Carmela was an active volunteer for 25 years at St. Luke's Hospital and served on the Auxiliary Board. She was an accomplished oil painter, and in past years worked as an interior decorator for Kreisel's Furniture showroom, and was a fragrance representative in Poughkeepsie and Connecticut.
A graveside service and burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Saturday, September 24 at 11:30 AM.
