Obituary

Carmen Milagros Anduze
November 1, 1932 ~ February 26, 2023
Wallkill, NY
Carmen Milagros Anduze of Wallkill died peacefully on the evening of February 26, 2023 at the age of 90.
Carmen was born in the mountain town of Jayuya, Puerto Rico, on November 1, 1932 to Adrian Rivera and Maria Flores Marin. Upon graduation from The Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Ponce, she obtained a scholarship from Catholic Charities to move to the United States and pursue graduate studies in social work at Fordham University. After earning her master's degree in 1954 from Fordham, Carmen began working as a social worker for Catholic Charities in Spanish-speaking communities throughout the New York City area. During the course of her long career, she held a variety of similar positions, working most often with children and families, and spent over 30 years working as a social worker for Ossining School District.
In July of 1959, she was married to Robert Anduze, with whom she spent the next 60 years until his death in 2019. Robert and Carmen had two children together, Rosemarie and David, and lived primarily in Yorktown prior to moving to Wallkill. Carmen will be remembered for her deep commitment to her husband, children and grandchildren, as well as for her love for cooking and hosting large family gatherings, Sunday dinners, and countless holidays. Her selflessness and charity, whether in the form of emotional support, caregiving for sick family members, or opening up her home to relatives for extended stays, touched the lives of many.
Carmen was predeceased by husband Robert Anduze; her sisters Ilia Fortuna and Lilliam Rivera; her daughter Rosemarie Anduze-Arcuri; and by her daughter-in-law Kathleen Anduze. She is survived by her son David Anduze; her step-children Jeanette, Robert, and Steve Anduze; her son-in-law David Arcuri; her grandson David Arcuri; her granddaughter Nikki and husband Vincent Vigliotta; her granddaughter Ashley Arcuri; and her grandson Daniel Anduze, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
