Catherine A. Canale

April 10, 1940 ~ March 17, 2024

Catherine A. Canale, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, affectionately known as "Didi" to her grandchildren, passed away at Vassar Brothers Hospital on Sunday, March 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Catherine was born on April 10, 1940 in the Bronx, NY. She was the eldest of five children. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Mary and Thomas Cawley; her loving sister, Maureen Roche; sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Ricky Yankow; brother, Brian Cawley; and brother-in-law, John McCarthy; as well as her loving in-laws, Michael and Fannie Canale; brothers-in-law, Mario and Michael Canale; son-in-law, Joseph Valentino; and our life-long family friend, Charlie Silverstein.

Catherine is survived by the love of her life, John Canale. They spent the next 63 years raising an amazing family of six children: Debbie Chianelli (Rick); Cathy McLoughlin (Peter); Jean Valentino; Joan Martens (John); Tom Canale and Mary Hagen (Chris); along with 15 wonderful grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Honora McCarthy; her brother, Thomas Cawley; as well as the following brother and sisters-in-law: MaryJane and Tony Gentile, Elena Canale, Theresa and John Cacavio; and many nieces and nephews.

Catherine's love for her family made for many celebrations, whether it be a holiday, a birthday or just a BBQ because if we were all together, it was always a party. Her wittiness, sarcasm and humor will be sorely missed. Especially by her sons-in-law!

Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Wednesday March 20 from 4 - 7 PM. A funeral home service will take place at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21 at 11 AM.
