Celestino "Puchi" Vega

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Celestino "Puchi" Vega, who departed this life on June 8, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Oriente, Cuba, to the late Celso Vega and Laura Hilda Castillo, Puchi was one of nine siblings and is survived by two. He emigrated to the United States 56 years ago in search of new opportunities and a better life for his family. He eventually settled in Newburgh, New York, where he built a life rooted in family, hard work, and community.

Puchi was a devoted truck driver for the majority of his professional life—a man of perseverance and dedication who took great pride in his work and provided tirelessly for his loved ones. He was a proud Cuban man, strong in will and generous in spirit, always willing to offer whatever he could to help those around him.

He is survived by his beloved children, Laura and Andres; his grandchildren Tamara, Donte (Tashae), Regina, Angely, and Andy; and his great-grandchildren, Jason and Jaila. He also leaves behind two of his nine siblings and a large extended family, including many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

Puchi was a loyal friend to many and brought joy and laughter wherever he went. He found happiness in the simple pleasures—spending time with family, watching baseball, and playing dominoes with friends. A passionate fan of the New York Mets, he rarely missed a game. His personality was marked by his wit, strength, reliability, and deeply loving nature. More than a grandfather, he was a father figure, a steady supporter, and a source of guidance and love to those closest to him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Puchi's life on Saturday, June 14th, at Brooks Funeral Home, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

The repast will be held at 245 Liberty Street, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Puchi's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit, strength, and kindness will never be forgotten.

Con gran pesar anunciamos el fallecimiento de Celestino "Puchi" Vega, quien partió de esta vida el 8 de junio de 2025, a la edad de 80 años. Nació en Oriente, Cuba, hijo de los fallecidos Celso Vega y Laura Hilda Castillo. Puchi fue uno de nueve hermanos, de los cuales dos aún viven. Emigró a los Estados Unidos hace 56 años en busca de nuevas oportunidades y una vida mejor para su familia. Finalmente se estableció en Newburgh, Nueva York, donde construyó una vida basada en la familia, el trabajo duro y la comunidad.

Puchi fue un conductor de camiones dedicado durante la mayor parte de su vida profesional—un hombre de perseverancia y esfuerzo, que se enorgullecía de su trabajo y siempre trabajó para proveer a los suyos. Fue un cubano orgulloso, fuerte de carácter y generoso de corazón, siempre dispuesto a dar lo que tuviera para ayudar a los demás.

Le sobreviven sus queridos hijos, Laura y Andres; sus nietos Tamara, Donte (Tashae), Regina, Angely y Andy; y sus bisnietos, Jason y Jaila. También deja a dos de sus nueve hermanos y a una gran familia extendida, incluidos muchos sobrinos, sobrinas y amigos queridos.

Puchi fue un amigo fiel para muchos y traía alegría y risas dondequiera que iba. Disfrutaba de los placeres simples: pasar tiempo con su familia, ver partidos de béisbol y jugar dominó con sus amigos. Fue un fiel seguidor de los New York Mets, y casi nunca se perdía un juego. Su personalidad se destacaba por su ingenio, fuerza, generosidad, confiabilidad y amor. Más que un abuelo, fue una figura paterna, siempre presente, dedicado y siempre apoyando a todos al lado de él.

La familia y los amigos están invitados a celebrar la vida de Puchi el sábado 14 de junio, en la funeraria Brooks, desde las 11:00 a.m. hasta la 1:00 p.m.
