Christopher (Chris) Kyle Bennett, of New Windsor, NY, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2022 atMontefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.
The son of Gordon L. and Virginia (Zimmerly) Bennett, Chris was born in Newburgh, NY on April 8, 1951.After graduating from St. Patrick's High School and inspired by a lifelong passion for understanding andimproving how things work, Chris attended Manhattan College in New York, NY, where he earnedBachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering. Over the next 47 years as a licensed professionalengineer, Chris helped realize some of the most important transportation projects in the New York Area,including the restoration of Grand Central Terminal (finalized in 1998), the Gateway DevelopmentProgram to improve rail transit between Newark, New Jersey and Pennsylvania Station, and, mostrecently, the Second Avenue Subway Phase 1 in Manhattan, which was named the 2017 Project of theYear by Engineering News-Record and for which Chris served as Project Manager for the design team.He retired from his position as Vice President and Chief Engineer for the worldwide engineering andconsulting firm AECOM.
On July 20, 1974, Chris married his high school sweetheart, Frances (Schorno). A devoted husband andfather, Chris always found time for his family - from building model trains and racing remote-controlledcars with his sons to helping anyone he could with home improvement projects big and small.
Left to cherish Chris's memory are his wife, Fran; his sons Daniel (Sara) Bennett of North Haven, CT, andEdmond (Tanya) Bennett, of North Olmstead, OH; six grandchildren (Evelyn, Aaron, Everett, Noelle,Peter, and Bernadette); and his sisters Claudia Bennett of Newburgh, NY and Regina Bennett of Goshen,NY; and cousins Kevin (Barbara), Brian, and Ryan Zimmerly.
A celebration of Chris's life will be held at Brooks Funeral Home in Newburgh, NY on Monday, December19 from 3-6 p.m. Reverend Bob Fitzpatrick, Chris's friend, will offer his blessings and prayers.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place,Memphis, TN 38105.
