Obituary

David A. Thoman's battle against cancer ended at his home in Newburgh with his family around him on June 7th, 2015. Born February 18th, 1960 in Wichita Falls, TX to parents Jean Hamilton and Robert Thoman. Dave served in the Air Force and went on to start his own successful HVAC company, D&L Heating and Air Conditioning, in Newburgh, NY. Tall Dave enjoyed fireworks, clowning, spending time with his friends and family, and yellow box cake with chocolate frosting (among many, many other things). He loved his little white dog, Gidget. Dave loved racing, and spent the last few years running his snowmobiles down the quarter mile track. Dave made friends everywhere he went, and this loss is greatly felt by all who knew him. His was a life well-lived; in his own words, "Who's got it better than me?" David is predeceased by his father Robert. He is survived by his wife Linda, to whom he was married on May 5th, 1984 in Westwood, NJ, as well as his two daughters, Jennifer, of Philadelphia, and Katherine, of Newburgh. David is also survived by his mother Jean of Asbury Park, NJ. He is survived by his sisters, Sharon of Bear, DE and her husband Ronald and their children and grandchildren, and Laura of Pelzer, SC and her husband Scott, and their children. David is lovingly remembered by his aunts Sharon Marshall of Houston, TX and Jackie Novak of Moscow, PA. David will be remembered for his generosity, spirit, and strength by his closest friends, especially Ken McDermott. The Family wishes to extend their overwhelming gratitude to David's Balmville Choir family, to our beloved friends at Green Acres, and to the many people from David's personal and professional lives who have reached out in this tragic time. Thank you also to the staff at Castle Point VA Hospital, to the Bronx VA, to St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, and to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. A memorial visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550 on Saturday June 13th from 1-4 PM, followed by a celebration of life at Linda and David's home in Newburgh at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's name to the American Cancer Society.
