Dennis John Leahy, 83, of Wappingers Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

Dennis J. Leahy was born on June 24, 1941, and raised in the Bronx, NY by his pre-deceased parents James and Mary Leahy. He was one of four siblings who he loved very much, his brothers James Leahy, Ridgefield CT, Thomas Leahy, Providence, RI and his sister Margaret (Peggy) Leahy-Marc-Aurele, Barre, MA.

On September 9, 1963, he married the love of his life Virginia J. Leahy, and they recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary. On September 15, 1969, he was hired as a Field Technician in the New York Telephone Company which is Verizon Communications today. He became a Shop Steward and eventually a Chief Steward at the R&W Garage on Jerome Avenue in the Bronx, NY where he spent his entire career. He was a proud member of the Communications Workers of America Local 1101 and loved the people he worked with and represented. Dennis, known to most as "Leahy", always took pride in "looking out for the little guy" and represented the membership to the best of his abilities. Leahy retired from Verizon Communications after 32 years of service in 2002. He enjoyed a long retirement with his wife Virginia and spending time with his family. His family meant the world to him, and he would smile with pride about being a Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather!

He is survived by his beautiful wife Virginia, his children Dennis K. Leahy, Maybrook, NY, Christopher and Terri Leahy Poughkeepsie NY, Tracy and Patrick Maher, New Fairfield, CT and Matthew Leahy, Highland, NY. He was also a proud Grandfather to Sean, Alyssa, Dylan, Christopher Jr., Rachel, Kaitlyn, Meaghan, Danny, Shannon, Mary-Clare, Alexis and Layla. A Great Grandfather to Harper, Donovan, Charlotte, Piper, Nathan and another Great Grandbaby on the way.

He is predeceased by his brother Thomas "Tommy" Leahy and Daughter In-law Elizabeth Kane-Leahy who he loved and missed dearly.

Dennis lived a good life, and his legacy will continue because of the solid "family" foundation he and Virginia started the day they were married. He will always be fondly remembered because of his sense of humor and his ability to light up a room upon entering. Dennis will be forever loved and missed by his family and all who knew him.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024, 4 pm to 7 pm at Brooks Funeral Home 481, Gidney Ave, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, 10 am at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton St. Wappingers Falls, NY 12590

Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude's Hospital or the Shriners Hospital for Children in lieu of flowers.
