Derek Adnams, Sr. Sharon Spellman
September 10, 1947 ~ November 7, 2025 June 17, 1949 ~ February 1, 2026
Derek Adnams, Sr., 78, passed away on November 7, 2025, at his home in Neptune City, New Jersey. Born on September 10, 1947, in Bromley, Kent, England, Derek lived a life defined by dedication to his family, faith, and service. Derek pursued higher education with distinction, earning a bachelor's degree from York University and later completing a master's degree at Trenton State College. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Derek served his country with honor and integrity. His military service exemplified his steadfast character and unwavering sense of duty.
Derek was a devoted husband, father, and Poppy, roles he cherished deeply. He is survived by his son Derek Jr.; daughter-in-law Stacey; granddaughters Riley and Kendall; sister Jeanette; brothers Gordon and Ian; brother-in-law Harold; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Jean Adnams.
Sharon Adnams (née Spellman), 76, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in Norwalk, Connecticut. Born on June 17, 1949, in Newburgh, New York, Sharon was the daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Spellman.
Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, and Grammy who brought love and warmth to all who knew her. Her family was the heart of her life, and she found immense joy in her roles as a mother to her son Derek, mother-in-law to Stacey, grandmother to Riley and Kendall and “Auntie Sha-Sha” to her nephew Bryan and niece Jessica. She also shared a close bond with her beloved brother, Harold. She was predeceased by her sister Sandra and her aunt Martha.
Derek and Sharon met at Saddle Lake Camp over Labor Day weekend in 1968 and started a romance through a mutual love of music, the Salvation Army, and long distance letter writing. This led to their marriage on December 6, 1969. Originally living in the Hudson Valley, it was Derek’s time in the US Army that caused them to ultimately settle in Neptune City, NJ, where they raised their only son, Derek, Jr. They were devoted parishioners of St. James Episcopal Church in Bradley Beach, NJ, where Derek sang in the choir and served on the vestry and Sharon was a member of the Alter Guild. Together they enjoyed vacations in Fort Meyers Beach, FL, and they loved spending time with their granddaughters.
A Memorial Service will be held on April 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home, located at 481 Gidney Avenue in Newburgh, New York.
May the memories of Derek and Sharon bring comfort to all who knew them as their legacies of love and devotion endure in the hearts of their family and friends.
