Domenico Di Vincenzo
March 6, 1929 ~ March 8, 2024
Dominick (Domenico) Di Vincenzo, a 24 year resident of Wallkill, NY passed away suddenly at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, NY on Friday, March 8 – 5 years and 1 week of the anniversary of his beloved wife Mary's death. He was admitted into the hospital on Wednesday, March 6 – his 95th Birthday and due to some complications which were unexpected he passed away 2 days later. He was surrounded by his children, however, when he finally passed away his son Robert was there with him. He peacefully went into the arms of God and his wife Mary.
Dominick was born on March 6, 1929 in Caporciano, Italy to his beloved parents, Benedetto and Elisa Di Vincenzo. He was the eldest of 4 children. He had one brother, Angelo and two sisters Dora and Linda. He went to private, sleep away school in Aquila, Italy and he studied German and Latin which came in handy later in his life. He came to America through Ellis Island in September of 1947 at the early age of 18. Dominick met the love of his life Mary on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx at a corner store. They married on September 19, 1953. Before their marriage, Dominick went into the Army and was sent to Germany during the Korean War. There he was a translator and later on he served as a tank driver.
Dominick was a loving husband to his wife Mary and was married over 65 years at the time of her passing. He was the best father a child could ask for to his three children – Robert, MariaElisa and Carla. His children meant everything to him and he could not do enough for this family. The birth of his twin grandchildren– Dominick and Julia gave him so much joy and pride.
Building a house and living next door to his grandchildren was the best decision he made. He was able to attend all their school activities and sports. He was their "Poppy"!! Dominick was a great friend to all who knew him and if he really liked you were his friend for life and there would be nothing he would not do for you. He truly was one of a kind.
Dominick was predeceased by his wife Mary; his parents; his brother, Angelo Di Vincenzo; his brothers-in-law, Salvatore Margarone, Vincenzo Recchutti, and Bob Lufrano; and so many dear friends especially Dolores Mazzoni and Peter Mazzoni. He is survived by his loving children, Robert Di Vincenzo (Laura), MariaElisa Di Vincenzo and Carla Annabel; and his grandchildren, Dominick Annabel and Julia Annabel (Benjie). He is also survived by his sisters, Dora Recchutti, Linda Lufrano; sisters-in-law, Sue Di Vincenzo and Patricia Margarone; cousins; nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; two great-great nephews; his best friend, Andrew Mazzoni; as well as local great friends – Bob Garrison, Bill Mastro and Mario Alonzo.
The family of Dominick Di Vincenzo would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Luke's Hospital – the ER staff and the staff on 2 North. Even though his stay was short, the care he was given was so compassionate and exceptional. Our deepest gratitude goes to our dear friend Kathy Sheehan, aka our Angel, for lending us once again her emotional and medical support not only during his stay at the hospital for anytime we would call upon her.
And last but certainly not least, we need to acknowledge and thank our dad's caregiver, Amber Williams. She gave our father such comfort and happiness, in addition to great care. His face would light up when she walked in the house. He felt so safe with her there and they became extremely close over these past few years, and she is a part of our family now. He was her "Dom" and she was his "Abba".
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Monday, March 11 from 3 - 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Gardiner on Tuesday, March 12 at 10 AM, followed by entombment and military honors at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale.
