Domenico Rocco Luca
January 12, 1947 ~ October 5, 2023
Domenico Rocco Luca of Lake Wales, FL passed away on October 5, 2023 after a long illness.
Domenico was born January 12, 1947 in Gioiosa, Jonica, Italy to Giuseppe and Maria Rosa (Agostino) Luca. The family immigrated to New York, and settled in Newburgh in 1959, joining Maria Rosa's brother, Joe Agostino. Domenico remained in Newburgh until his desire to move to a warmer climate in the early 1970s. Domenico joined his friend George McDermott in southern Florida, and continued to work in the construction industry, in which he had spent his entire working life developing an expertise in cabinet-making and carpentry. Domenico met his wife, Catherine Mazzullo in September of 1980, and they lived together in Fort Lauderdale, eventually marrying on October 10, 2010. He returned to Newburgh yearly in the summertime to help his parents with their garden, and again for the Christmas Holidays.
Domenico enjoyed gaming, gardening, raising his many dogs, and always lending a helping hand to the many friends and family with construction projects. His garden and love of authentic Italian food found him cooking for anyone who would show up in his kitchen.
Domenico is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Mazzullo; sisters, Maria (Luca) O'Boy and husband William, and Silvana (Luca) O'Keefe and husband Kevin; in-laws Linda Bateman, Richard Mazzullo, Patricia Weber, Leo Leroy Mazzullo, and Christopher Mazzullo; cousin, Patrick Agostino; several beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and his beloved pet dogs, Darby and Lily. He is predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Maria Rosa (Agostino) Luca; in-laws Elizabeth Mazzullo Everett and Leo Leroy Mazzullo Jr.; sister-in-law Elizabeth Jeanne Ziegler; and brothers-in-law John Timothy Mazzullo, Bruce Mazzullo and Stephen Mazzullo.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, October 15 from 2 - 5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, October 16 at 10 AM, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society of Polk County, Florida.
