Edith Virginia Lytle (Dolly, Edie ), 83 years of age of Newburgh, NY, passed away on June 21, 2023 withher daughter and granddaughter by her side.Born September 13, 1939 at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh, NY to Helen (Goldsmith) and Jack Diel. Sheenjoyed many activities such as square dancing on roller skates and riding and showing her belovedhorses, often with her older brother, John Paul. She began her education in Newburgh in a one roomschool house and proceeded through the school system, graduating in 1957 from Newburgh FreeAcademy. She furthered her education attending St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing (Newburgh, NY)and graduated in 1960 to begin her nursing career. She married Richard in 1960 and shared 37 years ofmarriage and three children with him. She chose to be a stay at home mom for her family and wasactive throughout their education as class mom, member of PTA, Sunday School director, sports momand chauffeur, and Boy Scout mother to name just a few things that kept her occupied. Her father hadbeen a charter member of Winona Lake Firehouse and helped instill in her a sense of community andservice. When her youngest was in elementary school, she was asked to work at Gardnertown School(Newburgh) and went to work each day with her best friend and hijinks cohort, MaryAnn Robinsonand continued there till they both retired. They were inseparable throughout the years creating anunbreakable bond between the two families and an immeasurable loss when MaryAnn predeceasedher.Edith or Dolly as she was most often called (and Edie to her nursing friends), was a loyal friend whowould do anything for anyone and always with a smile on her face and a quick laugh. She maintainedmany friendships through the years which was a testament to her loving spirit and generosity. Sheenjoyed traveling to see her parents when they wintered in Florida, family in Long Island and upstateNew York, trips to Brant Lake and especially her trips to Italy with her daughter and granddaughter.Family was the most important aspect of her life and she loved being surrounded by her children andgrandchildren as often as she could. She was famous for her Apple Dumplings that she baked with heradored granddaughter, Annachristina, as well as for many dishes she prepared to share with familyand friends. She developed a love of horses growing up on her family farm and shared that love withher own children as well as her grandchildren. She loved having her grandsons, John and David, helptake care of the horses on their many sleepovers.Edith was survived by : son John (Jay) Lytle and wife Lisa, of South Gibson, PA; her daughter DonnaLytle Palumbo, of Newburgh, NY; Kenneth Lytle and wife Anne; Grandchildren Annachristina LytlePalumbo (Jon); John Lytle (Frannie); David Lytle; her brother John Diel and wife Jodie, of Lynnwood,WA; her nephew Mark Diel and children, Meghan and Alaster; and several great grandchildren andseveral cousins. Survived by her dearest 'closer than family' friend, William (Bill) Robinson and family.Edith was predeceased by her parents, John (Jack) and Helen Diel; Richard Lytle; best friend,MaryAnn Robinson.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, June 29 from 4 - 7 PM. A service will take place on Friday, June 30 at 11 AM at the funeral home, followed by burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDF)Special thanks to the many EMS, doctors, hospital staff, physical therapists, occupational therapistsand rehabilitation staff who have worked with mom thru many years and injuries with knowledge,professionalism, and compassion and have often been referred to as her 'favorite guy/girl on the ambulance or in ER or at PT'. Knowing she was treated by people who saw her as an individual and remembered her and honored her wishes and health needs was a great comfort to her and her lovedones.
