Elsa Almodovar
December 14, 1940 ~ February 9, 2024
Surrounded by her family, Elsa Cumanda Almodovar passed away peacefully at age 83 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a strong warrior who fought and held on to be with her family until the end. After being diagnosed with stage 4-lung cancer on December 23, 2019, and going into at-home hospice on November 4, 2022, she became our guardian angel on Friday, February 9, 2024.
Born December 14, 1940 to Manuel Carrasco and Georgina Clorinda Nuñez, Elsa was raised in Ambato, Ecuador. At the age of 27, she moved to the United States, where she met her future husband, Hector L. Almodovar. They were married in 1969, in the Bronx, N.Y., where they lived for 45 years before moving to upstate, N.Y.
The couple were blessed with two children, Hector Almodovar, and Elsa Villafañe. As a devoted wife and mother, she spent all her time loving and caring for her family. She loved cleaning and cooking, and everything she cooked was the best, like 'arroz con pollo' (rice and chicken-Ecuadorian style), 'carne mecha' (roast), 'ensalada de remolacha' (beets salad), pudin de pan (bread pudding), 'limbe de guineo' (banana icy) and the list goes on!
In addition to her husband and two children, Elsa is survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, to whom she would constantly say, "Te quiero mucho".
"A limb has fallen from the family tree that says Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong."
