Ernest S. Trotta died on October 30, 2023 in St. Augustine, FL at the age of 95. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Vincent (Jimmy) Trotta and Mary (Bucco) Trotta. He is survived by his loving sister, Virginia (Trotta) Manzella of Brooklyn, NY. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Virginia (Viggiano) Trotta and his brothers Anthony, Vincent, Paul, Lawrence, Edward, William and sisters Mary and Catherine.
In August 1951 he married Virginia and together raised their children Daniel (Phyllis) Trotta of Denver, N.C., Sister Diane Trotta, O.P. of Cornwall, N.Y., and Thomas (Sandra) Trotta of Henrico, VA. He will be fondly missed by his grandchildren- Danielle Trotta (Robby) Benton of Davidson N.C., Andrea Trotta (Daniel) Gagliano of Davidson, N.C, Eric Trotta of Idaho Falls, ID, and Austin Trotta of New Haven, CT, and great grandson Peter Trotta Gagliano of Davidson, N.C., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ernie attended Brooklyn Technical H.S. and proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. as Corporal serving July 1946– July 1949; re-enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. Reserves January 1951; promoted Sargent in May 1951 and honorably discharged in July 1953. Following work as a machinist, in 1955 was appointed to the FDNY, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant 1967 and Captain in 1976 and retired later in 1977, serving twenty-one years with his brothers in blue - Rescue 3, Engines 70 & 66 and Ladder 61.
A resident of St Augustine, FL since 1976, he was a parishioner of Corpus Christi parish and enjoyed many wonderful friendships while playing tennis, fishing and golf with memberships in the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge 829 and the Italian American Social Club in Palm Coast, FL.
The family is very grateful for the professional loving care given by the Westminster St. Augustine Assisted Living staff and care teams of VITAS Hospice and Home Instead Care Agency.
Arrangements: Visitation will be held on November 7, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel of the Dominican Sisters of Hope Center at Mariandale, 299 N. Highland, Ave. Ossining, N.Y. 10562, (914) 941-4455.
Honor Guard and Pallbearers – U.S. Marine Corp and FDNY.
The interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY.
Funeral arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Home, Newburgh, N.Y.
