Obituary

Eugene Joseph Bonnabeau

April 4, 1949 ~ November 30, 2025

Eugene Joseph "Gene" Bonnabeau, 76, passed away peacefully at home in New Windsor, New York, on November 30, 2025. He was surrounded by his beloved wife and four daughters.

Born on April 4, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, Gene spent his formative years in New Rochelle and East Islip. Among his fondest childhood memories were the times he spent in Tupper Lake, NY where the beauty of the Adirondacks sparked a lifelong love for the outdoors that he passed on to generations.

Gene found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to camp and fish. Tending to his garden and watching the birds in the backyard were amongst his favorite moments. Anyone who had the pleasure to meet Gene, knew him. He had a unique ability to connect with people and light up every room he entered.

Gene made many lasting friendships through his 35 year long career in the wine and liquor industry.

A devoted husband and father, Gene is survived by his loving wife, Eva Bonnabeau. He was a proud father to his five children: Autumn McPhillips and her husband William McPhillips of Montgomery, NY; Kelly Bonnabeau (Gatt) of Newburgh, NY; Emily Bonnabeau and her fiancé Connor Cook of North Carolina; Marie Butta and her husband Christopher Butta of Montana and, Sean Bonnabeau of Montgomery, NY. Gene is survived by his five cherished grandchildren, Aidan and Amelia Gatt, Ethan and Kylie McPhillips, and Beau Butta. As the eldest of five siblings, Gene deeply loved his brothers and sisters: Dorothy Tanneberger; the late Susan and Frank Scotti; the late Blake Bonnabeau; and Elizabeth Bonnabeau-Harding. We would also like to acknowledge his sister-in-law, Ellen Holdsworth who immensely cared for him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene H. Bonnabeau and Josephine Bonnabeau.

Gene held close bonds with extended family as well. He is remembered with great affection by his nieces and nephews, who were dear to him.

Gene's presence will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
