Frances C. Jones, of Wallkill, a lifetime area resident, entered into rest on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at home. She was 78. Daughter of the late Clayton F. Melick Sr. and Margaret C. (Purtell) Melick, she was born July 5, 1934 in Newburgh. Frances was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and retired from Grand Union Supermarkets. She was loved by all who knew her and was a devout lover of animals, especially boxers. She was a "Boxer "Breeder" , and was a member of the American and New York Boxer Club. Survivors include her children, Frances Colandrea of the Town of Newburgh, Carole Jones of Walden, Holle Jones of Walden, and Alden Jones of Wallkill; her brother, Clayton Melick Jr. of Newburgh; her sister, Margaret Szeli of Modena; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister, Jane LaMela. The family will receive their friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Wednesday, August 15 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 pm that evening at the funeral home, with Father William Scafidi officiating. Final committal will be private and at the convenience of the family.
