Newburgh, NY

Frederick Henry Jackson II, a resident of Newburgh, New York for 60 years, passed unexpectedly on May 28, 2021. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 14, 1938 to Brigadier Frederick and Olive Jackson. Due to their occupation as Salvation Army pastors, his family resided in many locations throughout the northeastern United States.
He married his best friend and partner Katherine Maginnis, on May 20, 1961. Fred served in the U.S. Army as a member of the West Point Field Music Department from 1961 to 1964. During his military service, he and Kathy fell in love with New York's Hudson Valley and never left. They were blessed with four children and 10 grandchildren.
Fred was a faithful member and bandmaster of The Newburgh Salvation Army for over 50 years, until his retirement in 2015. He was a New York State Correctional Officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility, completing 30 years of service in December 2000.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Matthew McLaughlin. Left to celebrate his life are his wife of over 60 years, Katherine; his children, Tamara (Brian) McLaughlin of West Milford, New Jersey, Lori (Jud) Laidlaw, of Middletown, Ohio, Fred (Vonique) Jackson III, of Newburgh, New York and Holly (Matt Fusari) Jackson of Wappingers Falls, New York; his grandchildren, Samuel McLaughlin, Becca Rose, Caleb Laidlaw, Laura McLaughlin, Noah McQueen, Katie Laidlaw, Josh Laidlaw, Ben McLaughlin, Timber Jackson and countless friends he considered as "family."
