Obituary

Gay Ann Suttlehan
August 1, 1938 ~ September 21, 2023
Gay Ann Suttlehan, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home on September 21, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born in Brooklyn, New York to parents Anthony Valenti and Marie Valenti nee Giancarlo, Gay Ann moved as a teenager to Mount Vernon, New York where she completed high school. She worked at American Standard Plumbing & Heating Company in New York City. Upon her marriage to Donald J. Suttlehan, she relocated to New Windsor, NY where they began building their life of 63 years together and raising their four children. With her spouse, she later became co-owner of Henry Muthig Bus Company for four years in Newburgh, NY.

A woman referred by many names (Gay Ann, Gay, Mom, Aunt Gay, Granny, and Gigi) Gay Ann centered her life around faith, family, and friends. As a Roman Catholic, she believed in the power of prayer, saying Novenas, attending Mass, and honoring Mary and loved ones with lighted candles. As a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in New Windsor, Gay Ann served as a Eucharistic Minister and was proud to be considered part of the "Founding Fathers" of St. Joseph's School. She enjoyed volunteering in many areas, including communion breakfasts, bingo, card parties and school picnics. Gay Ann was a member of Catholic Daughters and the Altar Rosary Society in New York and the Epiphany Council of Catholic Women in Florida.

Having no siblings, Gay Ann's hope was to give the gift of a large family surrounded by love and laughter. With her loving husband, dancing partner, and travel companion, their four children blossomed to eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Not only was she an amazing cook, but she also turned into a serious card player and a die-hard Yankee fan. Community was important, and sharing wonderful times with long-time friends in New York and Florida were counted as true blessings in Gay Ann's life.

Predeceased by her parents, Gay Ann is survived by her husband, Donald J. Suttlehan, children Michael (daughter-in-law Nancy) Suttlehan, Kevin (daughter-in-law Sue) Suttlehan, Debra (son-in-law Henry) Chartoff, and Jacqueline Suttlehan. Grandchildren include Meghan Suttlehan, Kaitlyn (husband Jorge) Ramos, Michael Suttlehan, Caroline Suttlehan, Liam Suttlehan, Aidan Suttlehan, Rebecca Chartoff, Benjamin Chartoff and great-grandchildren Arrianna, Meadow, Georgie, and Norah.

Our family is forever grateful for the outstanding care and comfort provided by Hospice of Orange and Sullivan.

Throughout the years, Gay Ann supported many charities. In lieu of flowers, your donations to the American Heart Society and American Cancer Society are appreciated.
