Gaylord J. Dunn passed away in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the age of 95.Gaylord was born in Moira, New York, on October 5, 1927, to Libby and Daniel Dunn. On June 24, 1951,he married Dorothy Goetschius who predeceased him in 2014.
Gaylord graduated from Potsdam University and received his Masters degree from Columbia University.He began his career in education in Spring Valley, N.Y. where he met Dorothy. They moved to LivingstonManor, N.Y. where he was principal until he took a principal position at Taft Elementary School inWashingtonville, N.Y. He retired from Taft in 1982.
Together, Gaylord and Dorothy raised their four children who survive him. Nancy Nayar and her husbandRam, Susan Otto and her husband Dave, David Dunn and his wife Maureen, and Mark Dunn and his wifeGina. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Shanta Morton, Monica Baker-Moss, Daniel Otto, Kaitlin Alvarez, Meaghan Dunn, Natalie Dunn, and Mallorie Dunn. Gaylord also has three great-grandchildren, Dominic Alvarez, Madison Alvarez, and Palmer Morton.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 3:00-7:00 pm at Brooks Funeral Home, 481Gidney Ave., Newburgh, N.Y. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
