George L. Brooks

George L. Brooks, of the Town of Newburgh and Vero Beach, FL, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. He was 90 years old. The son of the late George and Nellie (Craft) Brooks, he was born on September 25, 1935 in Delhi, NY. He married Carol (Ferguson) Brooks on February 14, 1960. Carol survives at home.

George proudly served his country in the US Army from 1956-1959. He retired from IBM in 1991 after 35 years, and enjoyed many wonderful years in retirement with his wife Carol. George was an avid golfer, playing several times a week until his passing. But nothing meant more to George than his family, and he leaves behind many who will miss him beyond measure.

George was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marlboro where he served as an Elder, was a member and past president of the Marlboro-Milton Lions Club, and a member of the Quarter Century Club in Poughkeepsie. An active community member, George served on the Board of Education for the Marlboro School District for 12 years, where he served as Board President for two years, and was a Councilman for the Town of Marlborough for two years.

In addition to his wife Carol, George is survived by his two loving sons, James Brooks and his wife Natalie of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Michael Brooks and his wife Linda of Newburgh, NY; five grandchildren whom he adored, Lauren Brooks, Felicia Garnet and her husband Joe, Brittany Hannon and her husband Ryan, Stephanie Brooks and her fiancé Sean Silverman, and Steven Brooks; seven great-grandchildren, Brooks Hannon, Connor Hannon, Erin Hannon, Sloane Garnet, Riley Hannon, Sydney Brooks-Silverman, and Gwyneth Garnet; nieces and nephews; as well as numerous friends in both Newburgh and Vero Beach. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Brooks, and his sister, Betty Mackey.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, July 24 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. A private service and burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
