Gladys E. Cantley
August 9, 1933 ~ August 25, 2023
Gladys Cantley, age 90, passed from this life on August 25, 2023. She was born
Gladys Elizabeth, only child of Joseph and Stella White of Newburgh, NY on
August 9, 1933. Gladys was a lifelong resident of the Mid-Hudson Valley, residing
in Newburgh, Middletown, and Walden for most of her life.
She attended Mt St Mary High School in Newburgh before meeting her husband,
Oliver who was stationed at Stewart Air Force Base. They were married in 1952
and their union produced 3 children: Diane, Timothy and Roy.
Gladys spent much of her early adult years caring for her young family, eventually
working outside the home as a seamstress and in clothing manufacture. She
eventually retired from Cintas, entering a very active volunteer period, most of
which was with Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh and providing support and
assistance to neighbors and friends. Gladys was well known for her humor and
warm heart, which she always shared happily.
She is predeceased by her estranged husband, Oliver and son, Roy. Gladys is
survived by Diane (Mark) Kraft of Lewiston, NY and Timothy (Elizabeth) Cantley of
Newburgh, NY, her grandson Shawn (Amy) Kline of Dover, PA and her great
grandchildren, Zoey and Carter Kline. She also leaves her cousin, Joyce Turner of
Newburgh, NY with whom she shared many good memories.
A special thank you to the staff of Sapphire Nursing at Meadow Hill for providing
care and quality of life in her later years. She said that she never had to worry
after she became a resident.
Funeral services will be private at the request of the family. Any donations would
