Obituary

Gloria A. Forgit (Gramma Gloria)
We celebrate the passing of Gloria Ann (Hamway) Forgit. Gloria was pre-deceased by her husband George J. Forgit, her mother Mary Agnes (Price) Hamway, her father Abdella George Hamway, her sisters Georgette and Katherine and brother Robert Dickson. Gloria was born in Newburgh on September 29, 1931, and was raised in the city of Newburgh and has been a lifelong resident of the Town of Newburgh.
The proud mother of three children, Thomas Watt (wife Barbara), Linda Watt Lambert (husband Dennis), and Ed Forgit, Gloria was blessed to be the loving grandmother of four (Brian P. Lambert, David A. Lambert (wife Meghan), Heather E. Ferrari and Kristen M. Geigel (husband Joey) In addition, she is the proud great grandma of Joseph, Lucas and Stacie Lambert, Dawson and Madon Lambert, Gulianna and Penelope Ferrari and Emily Geigel; and an Aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Through the years, Gloria has been involved in many community activities. As a young woman she was a Majorette for Mac's Drum and Bugle Corps. When her children were in school, she was a member of the Gardnertown School PTA. An avid bowler, Gloria participated in the many leagues and tournaments at Campi-Tarsio Lanes and is a past member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Winona Lake Fire Company. Remarkably, Gloria worked at the Collection Bureau of the Hudson Valley until she was eighty-seven years old when illness struck, still driving herself to and from work and doing errands. During her four years of dialysis care at US Renal/Newburgh, and Orange Lake Physical Therapy, she gained the love and admiration for her kindness and strength by all who lovingly cared for her. Her home health aide of four years, Veronica Crawford, became a "second daughter" who gave all her heart to Mom and cared so very much.
She joined First United Presbyterian Church in Newburgh on March 25, 1951. First United merged into Union Presbyterian Church in November 1977 and Gloria was the second oldest living member of the church.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 22 at Union Presbyterian Church. 44 Balmville Rd., Newburgh, with internment following in Cedar Hill Cemetery with her loving husband, mother, sisters and family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Union Presbyterian Church, 44 Balmville Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Gloria - meaning Glory to God in Latin, embodies our dear Mom. She was a blessing, put everyone else's needs before hers, and while hearing impaired and totally deaf in her later years, took great pride in being the center of love and family.
Your strength lives on in all of us, and though no longer physically with us, you live in each and every one of us - to guide us during these dark days and to bring us your ever-loving smile with that little glint of mischief.
