Gordon Embler

July 26, 1932 ~ June 15, 2025

Gordon Embler of Newburgh, NY, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 26, 1932, in Newburgh to Wilfred and Jenny Embler, Gordon was the youngest of ten children who all predeceased him.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Gordon spent 28 years at Millbrook Bakery (Dolly Madison) and later retired from Wakefern as a warehouseman and respected shop steward. His work ethic and quiet strength earned the admiration of his colleagues.

Gordon found joy in the simple pleasures of life—he was an avid bowler and passionate fly fisherman. A lifelong lotto player and devoted New York Mets fan, he was also a family man whose warmth and humor will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved children: Joan Smith, Jean Fry and her husband Stephen, and Paul Embler and his wife Melissa. He was a proud grandfather to Steven Smith, Danielle Smith, Tiffany Montellese and her husband Ralph, Stephen Fry Jr., Christopher Fry and his wife Summer, and Alyssa. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Jason, Bella, Giovanni, Elliott, Jeremiah, and Jaxxon, who brought him endless pride and joy.

Gordon was predeceased by his cherished wife, Carole, and his precious cat, Chanel.

A graveside service will take place Saturday June 28th at 11:00am at the Fostertown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County.
