Sr. Grace Gately, of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, entered eternal life on Sunday, October 1st, 2023 at 64 Presentation Way, New Windsor, NY. She was 96 years old.
Sr. Grace Gately was born on May 11, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY and joined the Sisters of the Presentation on February 2, 1945. She professed first vows on August 16, 1947 and final vows on August 16, 1950. She graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School, Manhattan, NY. She earned a BA degree in Education from Manhattan College in 1952, and an MS from 1958 and MS Religious Education 1982 in Fordham University.
Her ministries include teaching at Our Lady of Solace in Bronx, NY; St. Michaels HS, Manhattan, NY; St. John, Goshen, NY; Mount St. Joseph Academy, Newburgh, NY. St. Bartholomew, Yonkers, NY; St. Helen and St. Rose of Lima in Queens. She was a Religious Education Coordinator and Catechist Instructor in several parishes in New York, New Jersey and Florida. During her years in retirement she volunteered as a substitute teacher in St. Thomas of Canterbury, Cornwall, NY and at the Newburgh Ministry.
In addition to her family at the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sr. Grace is survived by her nephews Paul Martin and his wife Barbara and Patrick Martin.
Sr. Grace was predeceased by her parents, Martin Gately and Grace Gately.
Wake Services will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Mount St. Joseph Chapel, 64 Presentation Way, New Windsor, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph. Burial will follow in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
