Obituary

Helen Conklin, a long time resident of the area passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at home after a long battle with cancer. The daughter of the late John William Morse, Sr. and Helen Morse Natali, Helen was born March 21, 1925 in Newburgh, NY. A family statement reads, "She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife & mother & will forever be missed by her family especially her daughter, Charlene who shared a very close bond with her Mom. A graduate of nursing school & a very loving foster mother, Helen would go on and work in accounting & finance and become a licensed realtor. But her most loved position was as property manager of Knox Village Apartments in New Windsor. She worked there for 35 years and was so dedicated many people just assumed she was the owner. Even after her retirement, you could still see Helen riding around the property making sure everything was in order. She was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Vails Gate Fire Department & the Catholic Daughters of America. An avid bingo player, she also enjoyed her occasional jaunts to Atlantic City & Vegas. One could say she was a supporter of the NY Lottery System due to her consistent buying of those scratch offs. She just loved those tickets! Survivors include her daughter, Charlene Conklin of Walden, NY; her son, Kevin M. Conklin & his wife, Lisa of Weymouth, MA; grandchildren, Bridget & Luke Conklin; her sister, Mary Virginia Ortale of Newburgh, NY; several nieces & nephews & her adorable little dog, Oliver. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Conklin, daughter Mary Conklin, brother Billy Morse, several in-laws including Thomas Ortale, Shirley Morse, several nieces & nephews including Diane Chudy & Wayne Morse & her beloved companion for many years, Frank Mastrella. Visitation will be held from 1-3,6-8 pm on Friday, December 27 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Fernando Hernandez at 10 am on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
