Obituary

James C. Hawkins

March 8, 1945 ~ March 21, 2026

James Hawkins, affectionately known as "Uncle Jimmy" to all who knew him, passed away on March 21, 2026, in Montrose, New York, at the age of 81. Born on March 8, 1945, in the Bronx, New York, James lived a life rich with curiosity, passion, and connection.

James was the son of Thomas and Mary Hawkins and grew up alongside his siblings Thomas Hawkins, Mary Hawkins Ray, Theresa Hawkins Barrett, and William Hawkins. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings but leaves behind a legacy cherished by his surviving family members: his sister-in-law Patricia Hawkins; his devoted niece and caregiver Theresa Ray; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will forever hold him in their hearts.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, James served from 1963 to 1967 while stationed in San Diego, California. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and pride that he carried throughout his life.

James was a true Renaissance man with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. His interests spanned history, music, sports, and Irish culture. He was exceptionally well-read and could discuss topics ranging from Britain’s early monarchs to the intricacies of World War I and II. His love for history often found him engrossed in programs on the History Channel or Travel Channel. A lifelong fan of sports as well, James never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved Bronx Bombers.

Music played a central role in James's life. As a talented musician, he performed with a band across Queens, Manhattan, and his cherished Bronx. His appreciation for music transcended genres and brought joy not only to himself but also to those fortunate enough to hear him play.

Professionally, James was the owner of JH Limousine in Bronxville, New York. Through this venture, he combined his love for meeting new people with his passion for hearing their stories. Driving clients to their destinations allowed him to connect with individuals from all walks of life—a testament to his warm personality and genuine interest in others.

James’s legacy is one of intellectual curiosity, musical talent, and unwavering kindness. His ability to engage deeply with people and subjects alike made him unforgettable to those who crossed his path.

May James’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

A Prayer Service will be held on April 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Veterans Cemetery 111 Craigsville Rd, Goshen, NY
