Mr. James E. Newman (affectionately known as: Dicky Boy) was born on Saturday, August 26, 1944 in Clinton, North Carolina to the late Willie and Julia Brown-Newman. James transitioned on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, peacefully, at home. James migrated to New York at the age of 16 and resided in New York for 63 years. Here, he settled into the community of Newburgh. James was employed as a Chauffer and a Brick Mason and was one of the best throughout the Mid-Hudson area. He did maintenance and construction for: Briton Enterprises, Inc., Sacred Heart Church (10 years) and Washington Headquarters. He gave back to the community of Newburgh as a Coach for the Newburgh Zion Lions Basketball Team. To cherish his legacy of honor are his children: Aloysius McClinton, Poughkeepsie, NY, Jamie Motley (Eric), Newburgh, NY, Camisha Oates, Atlanta, GA, Nicole Greene, Decatur, GA, Quantica N. Bennett (James), Wappingers Falls, NY, James E. Newman, Jr., Phoenix, AZ, Kearston Newman (Jessica), Atlanta, GA, Perneatha Oates, Newburgh, NY, Krystal Newman, Gainesville, FL, James Jerome Newman, Charlotte, NC, Stephanie Beckett (Leonard) Atlanta, GA. Siblings: Willie Newman, Washington, DC, Edna C. Moore, Newburgh, NY, Tony Newman, Newburgh, NY, Peggy F. Newman, Newburgh, NY, Linda Newman (William), Clinton, NC, Johnnie Newman, Roseboro, NC, Carolyn Parker, Roseboro, NC. Twenty-nine grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Three Godchildren: Tiffany Fishback, Jayden Jackson, and Norman Tillery. A special friend: Brian Sughrim. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Willie A. Newman and Bobby Newman; one sister: Jeanette Newman.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Carmel Church of Christ on Monday, October 23 from 10 - 11 AM, followed by a funeral service.
