James Carl Schulhoff Sr.

August 22, 1944 ~ September 10, 2025

Kingston, NY

On September 10, 2025, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, James C. Schulhoff, went to be with the Lord.

James was born on August 22, 1944, to the late Virgil E. Schulhoff and Elizabeth E. Schulhoff. He lived a life of devotion, creativity, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations.

He was the loving husband of Kathleen L. Schulhoff and was blessed with seven children, David Schulhoff, Marlene McKenzie, Michelle Layumas, James Carl Schulhoff Jr., Christine Russomanno, Jennifer Fells (deceased), James Carl Schulhoff III.

James was further gifted with 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy. Over the years, he opened his heart through adoption, raising David, Marlene, and later in life, his namesake James Carl Schulhoff III.

He served proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a radar specialist. Following his service, James explored many careers, but his greatest joy came later in life as a bus driver, especially driving children with special needs and working with Plattekill Head Start.

James was a man of many talents—a gifted artist, musician, woodworker, poet, and above all, a patient and wise problem solver. His creativity and steady hand were matched only by his devotion to his family and faith.

He served as an elder for many years at the New Hurley Reformed Church in Wallkill, NY, where his quiet strength and guidance touched many lives.

As his time on earth came to a close, James faced the final curtain with dignity and grace—his way, as Frank Sinatra would say.

His work here is finished, but his love, lessons, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
