Obituary

Jeannine L. Sylcox

April 13, 1944 ~ November 23, 2024

Jeannine L. Sylcox, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully in Newburgh, New York. Born on April 13, 1944, in Oswego, New York, Jeannine was the cherished daughter of the late Leonard and Madaliene Lambert.

Jeannine shared a remarkable 55-year marriage with her devoted husband, Edward T. Sylcox, whom she wed on May 31, 1969, in Oswego. Together, they built a loving family and a life filled with cherished memories.

She is survived by her three sons, Thomas (Jeni) Sylcox, Leonard (Dawn) Sylcox, and Edward (Tami) Sylcox, who were the pride and joy of her life. Jeannine's legacy continues through her grandchildren, Brittny, Dakota, Amanda, Joseph, and Thomas Sylcox, and her great-grandchildren, Audrey, Asher, Giavanna, and Aurora Sylcox. Her family also included her beloved grand dogs, Lucy, Rosie, and Ferguson.

Jeannine was a treasured sister to Leonard (Robin) Lambert, Cynthia Blomquist, Renee (Rick) Rider, and Richard Lambert. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews who held her dear in their hearts.

As a graduate of Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam in 1966, Jeannine began her career as a music teacher in the Spackenkill Union Free School District. Jeannine later graduated with a Master of Science degree in Education from New York University and led the Recreation Therapy Department and the Clinical Therapies at the Sylcox Nursing Home.  Even though she spent most of her career in the healthcare industry, her passion for music continued throughout her life. Many holidays were spent caroling to Christmas songs while Jeannine played the piano and led the family band!

Jeannine was a leader in the Newburgh community's healthcare industry. She served in many leadership positions, such as: over 30 years at the Sylcox Nursing Home including Assistant Administrator; approximately 20 years as the Administrator of the Mid-Hudson Managed Home Care, Inc.; member of the American College of Health Care Administrators, including the role of President; member of the Ulster County Long-term Care Council, including the role of President; and an active member of both the New York State Association of Health Care Providers and Orange County Long-term Care Council.

Jeannine was a natural nurturer from her beautiful indoor and outdoor botanical displays to her unwavering love for her family and community. As the matriarch of the family, she cultivated a spirit of generosity and acceptance within the generations of extended family that she brought together every holiday season.

Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life.
