Jean-Jerome

Jenny Jean-Jerome
December 1, 1947 ~ November 10, 2023
Jenny Jean-Jerome, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and devoted church elder, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023. The daughter of William and Laura Lawrence, she was born December 1, 1947 in Browns Town, St. Ann, Jamaica.
Jenny married the love of her life, Joseph Jean-Jerome on August 19, 1970. This union lasted 53 years until her passing.
She received a nursing degree from Elizabeth Seton College in Yonkers, New York. She worked at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, New York for over 30 years until she retired in 2014.
She was a passionate lover of nature and gardening. Jenny found solace and joy in the beauty of the outdoors. Her green thumb and nurturing spirit transformed lives and gardens. She was an ardent advocate for healthy living and enjoyed cooking plant-based meals and also teaching others the craft.
She dedicated her life to nurturing her family and community. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Newburgh Tabernacle Seventh Day Adventist church, where she served in church ministry holding several positions including the following: Adventist Youth sponsor; Women's Ministries Director; Vacation Bible School leader; Health Ministries Director; Community Service Volunteer and Sabbath School Superintendent. Her most recently held positions were that of Elder and Prayer Ministries Coordinator. She took her role as elder seriously and often worked behind the scene visiting the shut-ins and doing errands for those who were unable to do for themselves, giving food to the hungry and providing for the needy. Her unwavering faith was evident in her role in the ministry, where she provided guidance and support to those in need. In her role as Prayer Ministries Coordinator, she spearheaded the early Sabbath Morning Prayer session where, as prayer warrior she led the group in fervent prayer for those in need of intercession with our Heavenly father. She kept a book with a list of all those who were being prayed for indicating how important the prayer ministry meant to her. Jenny always greeted everyone with her infectious smile and her warm welcome of "Hi darling".
Jenny leaves behind a grieving, yet grateful and blessed family: her husband Joseph Jean-Jerome, her son Jeffrey Jean-Jerome, and daughter Desiree Jean-Jerome, her daughter in-law Yvonne Jean-Jerome and grandson Jared Ethan Jean-Jerome. Her siblings Daphne and her husband Roy Henry, her brothers Alvan Lawrence and his wife Denise, Seman Lawrence and wife Paulette, Franklyn Lawrence and wife Belcrease. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Amy Brown who played an integral part in her life, friends and church family and honorary children and grandchildren through Christ. She was predeceased by both of her parents, William and Laura Lawrence and her siblings Elaine, Twilby and Jack.
Her memory will forever live on in the blossoms of her family, her garden in Wallkill, NY, the spiritual seeds that she planted with her grandson and honorary children and grandchildren, also the love she showered upon all who were blessed with her presence.
May Jenny Jean-Jerome sleep in eternal peace leaving behind the memory of her zest of life and beauty she cherished, knowing that her job was well done.
