It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jeremiah P Quill., 80, of New Windsor, NY, on March 19, 2013 after a long illness. Jerry was born a first generation Irish-American on June 19, 1932 to the late Jeremiah and Margaret (nee O'Shea) and was raised in Astoria with his five siblings. He attended St Patrick's Elementary School, Long Island City, LaSalle Academy, Manhattan and North East Teachers State College. Jerry served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1971 with the Office of the Judge Advocate General as a paralegal. During his term at Stewart Air Force Base, he represented the US Government for claim purposes with Canada under the NATO-Safe Agreement. Upon his retirement, he was the Legal Services Representative at McGuire AFB, NJ. He was employed by the US Postal Service, retiring in 1992. Jerry is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter Kathleen Tellez and her husband, Gustavo of Essex Junction, VT; and his beloved grandchildren; Claudia, Gabriela and Cristina and son, Ronald Quill of Highland NY. He is also survived by his siblings Joan Vale and her husband Alan; Margaret Monckton, Maureen Caso and Frank Di Dio, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John and Kevin and his brother in law John Monckton. He was a member of the Fr. Donald J. Whelan - Division 2. Cornwall, Orange County, Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Newburgh Knights of Columbus. He was past president of the AOH Orange County Board and District 8 Director of the New York State Board. He was a strong supporter for many years of the Mid-Hudson St Patrick's Parade Committee serving in several capacities. He was Grand Marshal of the Mid-Hudson St Patrick's Parade in 2004. With his brother Kevin, he was an aide to the Grand Marshal of the St Patrick's New York City parade in 2003. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1796, Elks Lodge 247, TREA and volunteer driver for the Veteran's Hospital at Castle Point. Jerry was a parishioner and past Lay Eucharistic Minister of St Mary's, Newburgh NY and was a Lay Eucharist Minister at St David's Stewart Chapel until its closing Visitation will be on Friday, March 22, 2013, from 4-8pm p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave, Newburgh NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St Mary's R.C. Church, 180 South St., Newburgh NY. Burial will follow at the Orange County Veteran's Cemetery, Craigville Rd., Goshen NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Program (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or St Mary's Church, Newburgh NY.
