Jesus Lorenzo Mercado

October 3, 1934 ~ October 24, 2024

We are saddened to announce the passing of Jesus Lorenzo Mercado on October 24, 2024 at the age of 90. Jesus was born on October 3, 1934 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to Emilia Lorenzo Ramírez and Fermín Mercado Montalvo. Jesus served four years in the United States Navy. Afterward, he became Inspector General of the New York City Housing Authority until his retirement in 1989.

Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family. Jesus is survived by his siblings Willie, Maria, and Miggi; two children including his daughter, Diane M. Mercado and his son, Jesse J. Mercado Sr. (with his wife Roseayne); his grandchildren Melissa, Michelle, Donnelly, Rachel, Jesse Jr. and several great-grandchildren. Jesus was predeceased by his daughter Donna A. Mercado, his sister Ida, his sister Virginia, and his former wife Patricia A. Mercado.

A private service will be held in accordance with his wishes. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Jesus's honor to the American Cancer Society.
