Joan K. Marsh of Newburgh, entered into eternal rest on August 12, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. She was 86 years old. The daughter of the late John and Mary (Barnard) Case, Joan was born in the District of Camberwell, London, England on October 11, 1926. On November 9, 1944 she married Aviation Mechanic Second Class Warren Marsh of Newburgh, NY. In March of 1945 she left England on a hospital ship bound for the United States. She was the first English War Bride to arrive in Newburgh. Joan and Warren settled in Newburgh in the late 1940's after his discharge from the Navy, where they raised their family. Next to her family, Joan's second love was the Winona Lake Fire House, to which she devoted much of her time and was regarded by many as a second mother. She was a founding member of the fire house. She served several times as the president of the Ladies Auxiliary and could always be found in the kitchen on bingo night. Joan worked for many years as a nurses' assistant at St. Luke's Hospital in the 1950's. She also worked in the advertising department at Sears. For the last 35 plus years Joan cleaned houses where she was regarded as family by her customers. She is survived by her sons: Warren A. Marsh and his wife Jean of Henderson, NV, Michael Marsh and his wife Diane of Lake Luzerne, NY and John Marsh and his wife Marie-Antoinette of New Paltz, NY; grandchildren: Deborah, Paul, Scott, Tiffany, Jason, Jarrett, Jesse, Joshua, and Justine Marsh, Brandi Vanasco, Jennifer Treto, Courtney Hougham-Norris, and Wendi Foose and several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind 3 sisters, 2 brothers, and several nieces and nephews in England. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 16 at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Joan's name to the Winona Lake Ladies Auxilary, 160 South Plank Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.
