Obituary

John Rory Convery

June 17, 1955 – July 21, 2026

John Rory Convery, 71, passed away suddenly in Beverly, Massachusetts, on July 21, 2026.

Born in Newburgh, New York, John was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Cooney) Convery. He grew up in the Hillis Park neighborhood of Poughkeepsie, spending his youth playing baseball, basketball, pond hockey, and enjoying summers fishing and sailing with family and friends.

After graduating from Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1973, John began framing houses with local contractors before moving to Massachusetts. He settled in the seaport village of Salem and honed his craft at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, studying carpentry, cabinetmaking, and furniture making. A proud member of Carpenters Local 723, John worked on numerous major Boston-area projects, taking immense pride in his work on the Big Dig.

John was well known for his kind, gentle nature and ready smile. Though he never married, he intentionally filled his life with the warmth of family, lifelong friendships, and cherished memories.

John is survived by his sisters, Joan Convery of Maricopa, AZ, and Katie Gelormino and her husband, Rick, of Litchfield, ME; his brothers, Tim Convery and his wife, Kelli, of Clearwater, FL, and Patrick Convery and his wife, Karyn, of Maricopa, AZ; his nieces, Marion Larose and Shannon Convery; his nephew, Brian Convery; as well as a loving circle of extended family.
