John Etri, of Newburgh, a retired self-employed Barber and life-long resident of the area, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Elant at Fishkill, Fishkill, NY. He was 84 years old. The son of the late John and Mildred (Napolitano) Etri, he was born on December 8, 1928 in Newburgh, NY. He married Lila (Scheneman) Etri in Grace United Methodist Church, Newburgh. John was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Newburgh, where he served as head usher for over 40 years. John learned his trade as a Barber serving our country in the US Navy. After leaving the Navy, John worked on Wall Street in NYC before opening his own Barber Shop in Newburgh. He was a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. John is survived by his wife Lila at home; his son John Etri and his partner Daniel Maughan of Newburgh and his daughter Lori Beth Gizzarelli and her husband Lou of Newburgh; his grandchildren: Lia Ruth Gizzarelli, LJ Gizzarelli, Anthony Etri-Maughan, and several nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother Patrick Etri. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, December 8 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service officiated by Reverend Jeffrey Hooker will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 9 at Grace United Methodist Church, 468 Broadway, Newburgh. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Patricia Long, director of nursing and Michael Deyo, Administrator, as well as the 2nd floor south staff at Elant at Fishkill nursing home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made in John's name to the Grace United Methodist Church, PO Box 2556, Newburgh, NY 12550.
