Obituary

John A. Grimm

July 15, 1933 ~ August 18, 2024

John Andrew Grimm, the proud father of six children and grandfather of
eleven, age 91, of Newburgh, NY, passed away on August 18, 2024, at
home with Shelby, his beloved wife of 58 years, by his side.

John was born on July 15, 1933, to the late Andrew and Margaret Grimm of
Newburgh, NY. He graduated from St. Patrick's School and Sienna College.
During his career, John was the comptroller of the Dairyman's League,
General Manager for Finnegan Mayflower Movers, Mount Saint Mary
College Dial-A-Bus driver, and a dispatcher for the Town of Newburgh, all
the while working hard to support his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Margaret Grimm, and
his daughter, Diane Grimm, who he will meet again in Heaven. He is
survived by his sister, Mary Byrne of Newburgh, NY; wife Shelby Grimm of
Newburgh, NY; son Andrew Grimm (Karen) of Newburgh, NY; son Michael
Grimm (Julie) of Ocean Springs, MS; son Matthew Grimm of Newburgh,
NY; daughter Maureen Rivera (George) of Wallkill, NY; and son Richard
Grimm (Christi) of Shohola, PA; grandchildren: Andrew, Johanna, Kayla,
and Joshua Grimm; Nicholas and Maureen Casiano; Megan, Diane, and
George Rivera; Natalia and Alessandra Toressi, and David and Emily Grimm; and many nieces and
nephews - all who know John/Dad/PopPop/Uncle John will be waiting for
them in the afterlife with a joke and a song.

John was a devoted Christian who cherished being a part of St. Mary's
Catholic Church of Newburgh. He was a past officer of St. Mary's Holy
Name Society, a member of the Parish Council, and a lector, all the while
taking solace in knowing the Lord was watching over him. His heart may
have failed, but his gratitude, love, and spirit were strong.

John's love of family and gardening drove his life. Who can forget the many
Christmas Eve celebrations where he dressed up as Santa Claus for the
grandchildren? Summer vacations with the family at Chadwick Beach and
Ocean Beach were summer traditions full of fun, relaxation, and good food.
And every summer, you knew John was going to bring you vegetables from
his garden. Growing and tending to his plants helped him feel grounded
and connected to the earth, plus he loved showing off his impressive
tomato plants. He will be missed by all who know his friendship, humor,
love, and spirituality.

In honor of his final wishes, a private mass and burial will take place at the
convenience of the family.
