John (Jack) R. Grogan

John "Jack" R. Grogan, 76, of Newburgh, entered into rest on Sunday, January 30, 2022. The son of the late Michael and Helen (Rodgers) Grogan, he was born September 13, 1945 in Woodside, Queens, NY. He was predeceased in death by his sister, Joan Grogan O'Reilly. John married the love of his life, Mary Ann McDaniel Grogan in 1971 at St. Patrick's Church in Newburgh.
John was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in Bronx, NY, and Northeastern University in Boston MA where he earned his Civil Engineering degree. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1969-1974, serving as a Pilot where he flew A-6 Intruder jets, and was honorably discharged in 1974 as a Captain. He graduated from OCS in Quantico, VA, and was stationed at MCAS Cherry Point, NC, and MCAS El Toro, CA.
John worked for the Federal Aviation Administration Eastern Region from the mid 1970's until 2007. He worked in the Flight Standards District Office at JFK Airport as Principal Operations Inspector, where he served as a liaison between commercial air carriers and the FAA regarding safety regulations, as well as serving as a Manager for FAA in Farmingdale, NY Flight Standards District Office, FAA Philadelphia, PA Flight Standards District Office, and Teterboro, NJ Flight Standards District Office. He was also a Flight Instructor for Cessna 150's for 10 years, as well as a Soccer Coach for the Special Olympics on Long Island.
John and Mary Ann just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. John was a devoted husband and father, who never failed to make sure his family knew of his love for them. He was also a fervent NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. He was a dear friend to many and a wonderful brother-in-law and uncle. A true gentleman who loved God, his Catholic faith, his country, and his Irish heritage. We love you and will miss you so much.
In addition to his wife Mary Ann, he is survived by his daughters, Helene Grogan and her husband Thomas Rabideau of Shelburne Falls, MA, and Mary Grogan of Newburgh, NY; his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Judi Grogan of Melrose, MA; loving sister-in-law Dottie McDaniel Kern of Newburgh and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edmund and Barbara McDaniel of New Windsor; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for John will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, February 6 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 7 at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
