Obituary

John A. Kenger Jr.

September 6, 1957 ~ January 3, 2026

John A. Kenger, Jr., 68, a lifelong resident of the Town of Newburgh, died peacefully at his family home on January 3, 2026.

Bom in September 1957 in Manhattan, John was the son of the late John Kenger, Sr. and Ethel "Geri" Kenger. He was the beloved brother of Carol (Kenger) Diemer of Fort Montgomery. John attended St. Francis School, Epiphany High School, and SUNY Delhi.

John retired from Verizon after many years as a field technician. He was an avid fisherman, devoted New York sports fan, and enthusiastic skier. He took great pride in working outdoors around his property and was always willing to help his neighbors - especially by clearing snow from their driveways each winter.

John volunteered, and later worked, with the Town of Newburgh Animal Control and Shelter, where he found and adopted his dog and constant companion, Boo Boo.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by several loved ones. He is survived by his sister, Carol Diemer; his niece, Adrienne Diemer of Fort Montgomery; his nephew, Maclaine Diemer of Los Angeles; and many cherished cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 15, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church in Newburgh. Burial will follow immediately at St. Francis Cemetery in New Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Town of Newburgh Animal Control and Shelter. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have expressed their sympathy during this sorrowful time. Your love and care are deeply appreciated.
