John R. Lisi a lifetime resident of the area entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Castle Point VA Hospital. He was 87 years old. The son of the late Paul and Mary (Chiaini) Lisi, John was born on February 20, 1927 in Newburgh, NY. He was a graduate of NFA in Newburgh. John married Phyllis M. McLaggan on April 6, 1947 at St. Mary's Church in Newburgh. He retired from Young Motors, where he worked as the auto parts manager. John honorably and faithfully served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during WWII. During his time in the service John was awarded the World War II victory medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Expert Infantry Badge. John was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He was an avid Yankees fan who loved spending his time with friends at OTB. He always dreamed of hitting it big at the slots. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Phyllis M. Lisi. He is survived by his son John P. Lisi and spouse Tania of Montgomery, NY; his grandsons John J. Lisi and his spouse Samantha of Newburgh, NY and Anthony N. Lisi of Montgomery, NY; his step grandchildren: Kyle, Kayla, Kaitlyn McCambridge; his great-granddaughter Jaeda D. Lisi of Newburgh, NY; his sisters-in-law Rose Lisi of Colorado and Pat Mitchell of Newburgh; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, John was predeceased by his sister Anna Revell and brothers: Joseph and Nicholas Lisi. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 27 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 28 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow with military honors in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
