John S. Miller
September 16, 1942 ~ December 7, 2024
Newburgh, NY
John S. Miller, affectionately known as "Jack," passed away peacefully at his home in Newburgh, NY, on December 7, 2024, at the age of 82, with his beloved wife and daughter by his side. Born on September 16, 1942, at Cornwall Hospital, Jack was the cherished only child of John H. Miller and Stella Michaels.
Jack's life was spent in Newburgh, where he attended local schools and formed lifelong friendships in his Benkard Avenue neighborhood. After serving in the National Guard, Jack became a self-employed contractor, a career that showcased his dedication and skill.
Jack's passions were many. He delighted in scouring flea markets and collecting coins, and he was an avid car enthusiast. However, his greatest joy came from his family. On May 2, 1965, Jack married the love of his life, Vincenza Denisi, at St. Francis Church. Together, they built a loving family, having two children: Debra and John. Jack's favorite role was that of a grandparent. Known as "Poppy," he adored his four grandchildren: Emma Rose Secor, Vincenza Marie Secor, Jack Michael Demetriow, and Luca Desando Miller.
A devout Roman Catholic, Jack was deeply involved in his community. He volunteered at the Food Pantry, provided security for Religious Education classes, and supported the Catholic Youth Organization basketball program at St. Francis.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Vincenza "Vickie" Miller, his children, Debra S. Secor (Tim) and Dr. John H. Miller II (Carrie), and his treasured grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Vincenzo Antonio Denisi and Concetta Desando Loscerbo.
Jack's legacy of love, dedication, and community service will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10th at Brooks Funeral Home 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh from 4PM to 7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Ave, Newburgh at 10AM. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, New Windsor.
